Confirmation 2011/2012

Preliminary Calendar

Confirmation Classes will be held on Saturdays (twice a month).  One exception: We will attend an “End of the Year Confirmation Camp” at Mt. Cross, which I consider mandatory and which will happen the weekend of 4/27 – 4/29/12.  There will be several hours during that camp set aside for individual pastors and confirmands to work on their respective material.  Scholarships for the camp will be available.

The preliminary days and times for confirmation classes (through December) are:

9/17                             12 noon – 2 p.m.

10/1                             12 noon – 2 p.m.

10/15                           12 noon – 2 p.m.

11/5                             12 noon – 2 p.m.

11/19                           12 noon – 2 p.m.

12/3                             Participation in St. Nicholas Event – 5 – 9 p.m.

TBA                            December Service Project – help with gift wrapping at shelter

Other dates will be determined come December.

Important Dates:

For second year student:

Expectations: 

Confirmation Students are expected to make it to all classes; however, I’d be okay with them missing one or two sessions during the school year.  There will be plenty of opportunity to switch the preliminary calendar around, if necessary, so there should be a way to accommodate everyone’s calendar.  Of course it will not be held against students if they get ill or have to miss class due to some other emergency.

Confirmation Students are expected to attend at least one worship service a month (it doesn’t matter, where) and to turn in at least 20 “worship sheets” over the course of two years.  Worship Attendance Sheets will be available in St. Mark’s narthex.

Class Cancellation: If your student needs to miss a class, please send me an email or call/text me on my cell phone. If I receive 2 or more absence notices for a specific week, class will be cancelled. If I have to cancel a class on short notice (pastors get sick, too), I will make every effort to let you know on time.

Summer Trip:

At the breakfast meeting on 9/8, we were discussing a possible summer trip for the confirmands and other youth.  I will do the research and let you know if and when such a trip would take place.
