Current Showing:

PUPPETS “ON THE LAWN”

Saturday evening, October 1st, 7:30 PM the Puppets of Praise will be back at Saint Matthew performing their current show “Making a Difference”.  The show, first introduced earlier this year at Saint Mark’s, shared with the residence at Love-a-Child and just performed “In the Park” at Groveland, consists of several songs from the popular TV show Glee along with a few of their favorite mixed in. The finale of the show is performed utilizing simple lighting effects starting with the song “This Little Light” to “Firework” ending with “Light up the World”.  All kids get their own lighted heart necklace to play their part in the show. Due to the current popularity of outside performances they will be “On the Lawn” at Saint Matthew. This is a perfect time to invite your neighbors and friends for a little outside fun. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and share in 45 minutes of puppet fun, without the sun.

What is Puppets of Praise?

Upbeat Christian music, video clips, special puppet guest appearances, audience participation and more surprises all delivered through the use of puppets. Check out our continually expanding slide show of our newest puppeteer friends taken at our April and May shows and if you’d like we’ll  get your picture taken and  include you too in our next show . We’re trying to get Sherlock Hound back on drums, and many more new surprises and favorite participation songs to “rock the house.” This is appropriate for kids from 1-99 and it is free. But don’t come alone, invite your friends and claim a special treat given out during the show. We are looking to fill the house again so come early to claim a seat or claim a space in our newly added “Kid Zone” our up close and personal space to dance along with the cast.

We also continue our canned food and gently used clothing drive for local community needs. Join us for light refreshments after the show.

Don’t forget to invite your friends. See you there!

2009 was the year of change for the “Puppets of Praise” with the introduction of “Operation Reach-out” or “OR”. “Operation Reach-out” a joint venture between St. Marks and the Puppets of Praise plans to do just that “reach-out” to friends, neighbors and the surrounding east-bay community to people of all ages. “Operation Reach-out”, a work in progress, is being designed to have monthly presentations containing upbeat Christian puppet songs, skits and special guest characters, video clips and/or movie segments, audience participation, and other surprises. After each presentation guests will be treated to refreshments provided by the Contra Costa Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans who is helping sponsor the events.

“Operation Reach-out” was presented in a newly designed “puppet theater” in one of St. Mark’s buildings called Cunnison Hall. The puppet theater allows intimate seating for about 80 guests and provides a truly unique puppet experience. The vivid colors of the black light puppets, the close-up participation kids will have with the life sized “puppetumes” and the large sized video screen offers experiences everyone of every age can and will enjoy.  More good news to share is that it is all free. What a great thing in these challenging times.

The “Puppets of Praise” is a Christian based youth ministry team who share the love of Christ through the use of puppetry. This unique ministry was conceived in 1980 and has performed under the name “First Puppeteers” from First Lutheran Church in Concord, and as the “ Puppets of Praise” at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church in Walnut Creek and now here at St. Mark’s.

This dedicated group of young people, 7th grade through high school age, (with a few local college kids and a few adults too) display their faith through this unique ministry. During their 28 years they have performed throughout California and into the mission fields of Mexico.

The current cast of puppet characters consists of over 130 different size, shape, character and color of hand puppets as well as their newest addition of black light puppets. Along with these hand puppets you will find the most unique entertainers called “puppetumes”, which are the life sized, multi-colored, and multi-talented puppets which take on personalities and talents of the young people performing in them.

So stay tuned for our scheduled performances or call about a personal performance on site or at your location. The “Puppets of Praise” do have the capability to travel to various locations and can be seen each Christmas at the annual tree lighting ceremony at the Jelly Belly factory in Fairfield, CA.
